Fintech mx51 has appointed Jo Newton to the role of head of people and culture.
“Jo’s appointment already comes at a key time in the business’ growth. We’ve doubled our global headcount in a year, we’ll need to grow even faster in 2023,” said mx51 co-founder and CTO Steven Hadley.
“This jars against the realities of the Australian tech talent market. It continues to be difficult for businesses to hire, and we will be leveraging Jo’s expertise to navigate this complexity.”
Newton brings almost two decades of experience to mx51.
She joins the company from Reejig, where she most recently served as chief people experience officer.
Newton’s previous roles include head of HR at Export Finance Australia, head of HR operations and projects at Aon, head of HR management to HCF, and HR officer at Epson Australia.
Earlier in her career she worked as a recruitment consultant at various agencies.
Newton holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood teaching from Macquarie University, a graduate certificate in HR from TAFE NSW, and a master’s in industrial relations and HR from the University of Sydney.
“MX51’s growth to date has been incredibly impressive to watch, but can create its own challenges around hiring and retaining talent,” said Newton.
“The founders have done an excellent job at managing this to date. The company is ahead of the curve in terms of flexible work arrangements and has secured some incredible people from across the technology and financial services sectors.”
“My goal is to build on their efforts and enhance the company’s position as an employer of choice in the financial technology sector.”
mx51 is currently trying to fill 16 roles in areas including customer support, product and technology.
