Amazon’s Free Streaming Service, Freevee, Is Coming To iOS

Amazon’s free (with adverts) streaming service, Freevee (formerly known as IMDb TV), is coming to Apple devices in the UK, by releasing an app for iPhones, iPads and Apple TV.

Amazon’s Freevee features premium originals including crime drama Bosch: Legacyhome-design series Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewisand the service’s first Original film, Love Accidentallyas well as the upcoming premiere of the Amazon Freevee Original comedy series, Sprung on August 19.

Freevee’s iOS launch comes a month after The standalone Freevee app was also released for Google TV and other Android TV devices including Sony, Panasonic, Hisense, Phillips, Sharp, Vestel, Nvidia, Xiaomi, TCL and Android mobile devices.

And, as before, the Freevee app is also available on Amazon’s own Fire TV streaming deviceswith the service also available on Amazon’s Prime Video app, which is even more widely available (including on Roku streaming sticks, and on Sky and Virgin Media’s devices).

Freevee was originally known as IMDbTV, when it turned into Freevee last April. It started its life as a US-only streaming service, back in 2019, under the umbrella of the big film database, IMDb – which is owned by Amazon.

Freevee features TV shows and films from a variety of studios and production companies, as well as original productions. Everything is free to watch – but with advert breaks.

When it first launched in the UKthe service only had on-demand content, but “live” ad-supported linear channels were soon added, with themed categories such as sci-fi, action and horror.

The live channels were only available on the Fire TV app-based version of the service, but will now be coming to the iOS (and before it, Android) versions as well.

Unlike many other free streaming services, Amazon’s Freevee features premium originals, including the recently launched crime drama Bosch: Legacy, which is a spinoff series to Prime Video’s Bosch.

The service also features an extensive and frequently updated library of hit movies and television including popular favorites such as Les Misérables, Babylon 5, The Breakfast Club, Person of Interest and Without a Trace.
